Dickinson, North Dakota to Glasgow, Montana
This was
another day of a long, uneventful drive.
We were up at our usual time of 6:15 to 6:30, and after a nice breakfast
of fried eggs and sausage we hit the road.
First it was back down I-94 from Dickinson to US 85, then north toward Williston
before turning west on US 2 toward Montana.
For the most part the drive was uneventful as far as Watford City,
broken only by the scenic coulee of the Little Missouri River. But as we approached Watford City, the
traffic really picked up — we were now in the oil patch, the hectic activity of
drilling in the Bakkan Oil Field. All
around were wells being drilled, producing wells, and oil field service company
yards filled with drill stem and other equipment. We wove our way through the big trucks and
the construction detours all the way to Williston. West of Williston things finally settled
down, and it was an easy drive into Glasgow, our stop for the night. We’re staying at a commercial RV park
tonight, our first for the trip, so we could take advantage of their laundry
facilities and get a nice, hot shower before heading north to Saskatchewan
tomorrow.
